You Are Building a Personal Brand Whether You Realize It Or Not
There are tons of classes out there showing you how to build your personal brand.
When I first saw these, I felt intimidated. “Why would anyone follow or look up to me? Is that even possible since I am not in my twenties? Is it worth all the time and effort?”
Then one of my mentors said something to me that completely shook me.
You are building a personal brand whether you want to or not.
A famous quote goes something along the lines of, “create your life, or someone will do it for you.”
Your brand is what you stand for. It is the unique combination of skills, experience, and personality you want people to know you for.
If you are not out there being your number one advocate, people will create your brand for you.
Below are my top 5 rules for building a personal brand:
Tell a story.
“The most effective personal branding strategy these days is to build a true narrative — single character monologues are boring in Tinseltown, and even more boring for your personal brand.” — Allan Gannet
Create a positive impact.
“You can have everything in life you want, if you will just help other people get what they want.” — Zig Ziglar
Live your brand.
“Your personal brand should follow you everywhere you go. It needs to be an authentic manifestation of who you are and amplify what you believe.” -Tim Salau
Keep showing up
“80% of success is showing up” -Woody Allen
Focus on what makes you different
“By being yourself you put something wonderful in the world that was not there before.” — Edwin Elliott
